Honestly amazed so far! I almost didn't buy this based on some negative reviews
5 out of 5 stars
Honestly amazed so far! I almost didn't buy this based on some negative reviews
I almost didn't buy this since a handful of people said the scope was blurry. Yes when you adjust the zoom it gets blurry fast, but when you adjust the focus you can find that sweet spot that works for the distance you are looking at. I have successfully had a clear view at the furthest and shortest settings on this scope. It was crystal clear! I have successfully been able to adjust the zoom and focus at other random distances inbetween the max and min. (See pictures, I aimed at a distant power tower which I estimate to be 400+ yards away. There are 3 pictures taken from my iPhone. 1 picture is just the iPhone picture out my window with no zoom. The other two pictures are with the scope zoomed all the way out and all the way in. You'll know which one is which!) Most rifle scopes I have used has had only a zoom and your eyes are the focusing lens. Maybe the negative reviewers are used to just adjusting one knob? This scope has three knobs total to adjust. One zoom and 2 focus(the end near your eye unscrews out a ways, this is your second focus. It was hard to notice and that might be the answer for some other reviewers and their blurry problems), so yeah it takes more effort to focus and zoom for sure, but it's not like it is impossible to get a clear view through the scope as some people claim. The red and green light feature is pretty cool, I was happy to see it wasn't required to be on to use the scope. That wasn't clear from the description. The scope is just a normal scope with crosshairs, the lights just reflect off of it to make it easier to see in certain lighting conditions. If your battery dies no biggie, the scope still works! The build quality is nice too. If you gave this scope to me a week ago when I didn't know anything about this scope I would have guessed it cost $300-$400. To get it for $50.00 is a steal. Now there are two other important factors that I have yet to test with this scope: 1) Does it hold up to recoil? Will the crosshairs float and come loose? (I am only going to be using it on a Feather AT-9 which is a 9mm carbine rifle. It doesn't kick that much.) I bought a Barska Plinker-22 scope for it a few months ago, but the crosshairs rotate freely inside the scope. Yes the scope was made for a 22, but I didn't think a 9mm in a heavy rifle would hurt it. It did. 2) Will it hold zero? My 9mm carbine is very accurate. It is a fun plinking rifle. I want a nice scope on it to easily and accurately snipe potatoes. (potatoes are a very cheap, reactive, biodegradable target. I can buy 10 lbs of potatoes at my local grocery store for $2.00. Hours of fun right there.) Yes I could spend more on a scope, but I don't want the cost of the scope to be worth close to the value of my gun. I will update my review when I can test its ability to resist recoil and hold zero. Even if it doesn't the magnification ability would make it an awesome spotting scope for $50.00. Can't find that kind of magnification for that price anywhere.

    Lens Color: BlueVerified Purchase
I recently purchased a semi-custom built AR-15 with a Bushnell red dot scope. At the sight-in range of 25 yards, and even 50 yard the red-dot was not problem at all but at 75 yards and up my eyesight just ain't what it used to be at all! So I started the search for a workable but inexpensive scope. I was planning on something along the lines of a 4-9X/30 and hoping to keep the price under a hundred bucks. I found this page and scope digging thru Amazon and the numbers of positive reviews and the price keep me reading and eventually ordering it. I ordered it on a Friday evening and it was delivered a full day ahead of schedule the following Thursday! (A shooting friend, looking at the unmounted scope, thought I probably paid at least 300$ up for this scope. I still have not told him the actual cost.)

    So.... a review:

    1. The scope arrived in perfect shape in a box big enough for maybe 8 scopes this size. The rest of the box was filled with those airbag thingies.

    2. When I first picked the shipping box up I was amazed at how light this thing actually is.

    3. The internal box contained the scope wrapped in bubble wrap and several items: The scope itself with it's transparent covers (one, the rear, is yellow) in place, a card with the cvlife website and an 800 number to call if you have a problem of some kind. a bag containing a wiping cloth and a hex allen wrench for the rings, and another with the 2032 lithium battery for the reticle lighting (that 2032 will be installed with the + or positive side up!). There was a warning label about the L-ion battery on the shipping box big enough for a 12 volt car battery

    4. After reading perhaps a hundred plus reviews or more, both the positive and the negative, I figured I was pretty well prepared for what might be coming, both positive and potential negatives. Before doing anything else, I checked for the location all of the possible adjustments, the range ring at the front, the aperture or focal ring at the rear just to see if it all worked, the reticle luminosity control and the battery location, the power ring and the scope adjustments themselves. Out of the box with the forward range ring set for 75 yards (or meters, not specified) and the power level set to 6X, and with just a bit of adjustment to the rear focus ring I could easily read the phone number on the 5"X8" alarm sign under the mailbox across the street, about 200' away. (1-822-protect). I found the illumination settings, for red in red numbers 1-5 and green in green numbers with the off setting at either the green G or the red R. They are there around the base of the control but kind of faint. Putting the battery in the proper spot and I got the green or red illumination expected. in bright sunshine the lighting with a fresh battery seemed to be sufficient for my old eyes set on 3 in either color. So I went back to black. I played with the power setting and found that a bit stiff to turn but again, looking at the alarm sign across the street found the 24X setting pretty comparable to my 20X-60X spotting scope at the same setting. The image on the cvlife scope is bright and sharp and the reticle is also sharp from edge to edge as is the illumination in either color. (I also forgot to turn it off and eventually killed the battery. As I said elsewhere the indicator numbers are faint!)

    5. Now for the fun part, installing the scope on my AR15. I have a full length rail in two sections on my AR, with the forward grip section a free floating ADR setup. One of the things I knew to do from a bunch of years ago was to figure out just where I was going to need to install the scope to match my eyesight. Per the specs you need about 3.5" between your eyeball and the rear glass. My first mistake was trying to install the scope with the rings attached to the scope. You are far better off first figuring out where to mount the rings first (about 4" apart on the rail) to allow for forward/backward adjustment of the scope tube depending on where your cheek actually hits the stock. While doing that I found that my forward rail was not perfectly aligned with my rear rail (which explained why I had to offset my rear iron sight more than I thought should be needed for zero). After taking care of the furniture placement I mounted the scope into the rings leaving things a bit loose and then mounted the rings on the rail. Good thing I left the rings loose because I found out right away that I didn't have the reticle perfectly vertical. Fixed that and then a bit of adjustment fore and aft for the scope picture and I was ready to bore sight.

    6. The reticle was perfect as shipped for windage on the bore sight and just needed a bit of adjustment for the height. More on that aspect later. Both the windage and height controls are 4 clicks to MOA (1/4" per click at 100 yards) and are under the screw-on covers that appear to be weatherproof. A quick comment on the supplied rings: They are made from a fairly soft aluminium so some care is needed when you begin to tighten things down. Keep the guy with the gorilla hands AWAY! Bit by bit will do it. You will probably need some further tightening or adjustment a couple oftimes when you actually get to the range and begin shooting but use some care. (if you find that the rings do not meet your standards, WalMart has several 1" rings for about 10$ in their sporting goods area.) The rear of the scope with the supplied rings just(!) cleared my rear magpul flip-up sight and the front sight in the down position is not visible thru the scope. When I first started to set things up I was afraid the flip-up sights would have to go but in their horizontal position there was no problem. Depending on your iron sights, your mileage may vary.

    7. At the range: My local range max distance is one hundred yards so testing/reviewing at longer distances will have to wait until I can visit a friend's farm. But at one hundred yards you can easily see the holes punched in the paper targets from a . 223/5.56 at full power and less! Heeding my own advice about gorilla hands, I forgot to re-tighten the rail clamps which resulted in some confusing shot placement until I fixed that problem. I had the same problem with my Bushnell Red Dot at double the price but I forgot about that! Carry a quarter, a loonie or a Euro coin for that task. Works/fits perfectly. This scope is impressive! (My shooting ability apparently less so!) If you are running a Picatinny rail or an adjustable stock, be prepared to make adjustments all the way around until you find what ever is the proper fit for you and the scope picture. And at full power, a good bench rest or sand bag or a bipod might be a good add-on choice

    8. My verdict on the rings is still tentative until I can get back to the range again for the third time for more badly needed practice on my part but so far, this scope rates a solid 5 stars. I will edit this review if anything further comes up. Sadly, once again, another Amazon product that did not come with free beer!

I’ve had this scope since 2017. It’s held up well with light use and being bumped or dropped once or twice. But only recently have found an outdoor range to really reach out and touch something. Turrets are tactile and give good audible and haptic feedback when you’re adjusting windage and elevation. I use a bore sighter and zero at 25 yards. On steel at 100 yards…20 rounds of .308 out of my AR-10 and 20 hits on steel.

I’ve yet to take the scope out to 200, 300, or 400 yards and being a second focal plane scope, things may not go as expected out there. Also since this is so cheap I wouldn’t even consider this optic for a life and liberty or SHTF weapon.

It’s only receiving high marks just for its light duty and plinking performance for holding up under .308 rounds

I got this scope on a whim. I have several rifles, so I figured I'd throw it on one of them, and see if it was worth the money. My initial intent was to put it on my CZ 452, which I did. This required a different set of rings than the ones that are sent with the optic, but that was an easy fix. End result was awesome, if you're okay with a huge scope on a rifle...with one exception. The only way I could mount it resulted in the front bell of the scope resting on the rear sight of the rifle. I was worried that this could flex the optic, and affect its performance, so I went with plan B. The optic now sits atop one of my long range AR-15s, which meant that the original scope rings could be used after all. Score.

Now, I didn't have high hopes for this optic. But three things made me take a chance on it. First, even though it has a lighted reticle, it's also got a black reticle, when the lighted option is turned off. I hate magnified optics that rely on batteries for their usefulness. So that was already a point in its favor. Second, it's cheap. Worst case scenario, I spent as much as dinner and a movie would cost (at least), if you were taking someone worth the time out for that sort of thing (If they're worth it, don't be cheap, fellas). And lastly, the turrets were hand adjustable. I don't see why the concept of a knurled knob is so difficult for so many optic makers to grasp, but they should all come that way, in my opinion. So those three things, I decided to get the scope, despite my low expectations as to the function. On to that....

This thing was great. I sat at a 100 yard range, and focused in on individual stalks of reeds in the brush above the berm. I was quite impressed with the clarity of such a low priced optic. Eye relief is awesome, so you don't have to struggle to find the sweet spot while mounting. Once I had the optic set up the way I wanted it, turret adjustments were distinct and easily noticeable, with both audible and tactile clicks. The only thing I disliked about the setup was having to re-focus when changing distances. The focus on the end made it hard to work the adjustment while staying on the scope, which was necessary to fine tune the focus. That's going to be an issue with any focus system like this, but this one seemed quite stiff, and made adjustment take longer than I'd like. This would be fine for punching holes in paper, but if you had to do it to take game, competition, or for any shot that required speed, you're going to have issues. Not insurmountable issues...but issues, none the less.

So how did it shoot? This optic was one of the easiest to get on paper, and sight in, that I've had in quite some time. I basically Billy Bobbed it onto paper (Kentucky windage until I saw that it punched a hole, then adjusted accordingly to get it closer to where I wanted it), and then dialed it in at 30 yards. It held its zero from shot to shot for the duration of approximately 30 rounds of 5.56 (actual 5.56...not .223. So a bit snappier recoil than the .223 ammo. I figured it was worth mentioning, in case anyone cared) during the sighting in phase.

Now, it was about 40 degrees, with the ocassional breeze dropping it down to approximately -68 degrees (I'm going by my best guess on that second assessment. It felt pretty damned cold to me, so I was freezing my ass off. YMMV. Moving on...), so admittedly I didn't put in my due diligence putting this scope through the paces. I didn't drop it or, much with it to test how resilient it was in holding zero, but I can say that, at 30 yards, I created a single hole grouping of 3 shots with this optic, after speed zeroing it (See pic). Now, this isn't that impressive with this powerful of an optic, at such a close range (but, aside from spreading the group out a bit, a 30 yard zero should be fairly close to a 100 yard zero), and I didn't have the chance to stretch it out after that (I was in no mood to dawdle in that kind of cold), but I'm pretty impressed with that kind of performance out of a cheap optic, especially considering the less-than-methodical manner in which I was assessing it, and the weather conditions. If I hadn't been cold as I was, I could have probably tightened that group up a bit. I have yet to check it, but from initial inspection, I believe it's possible to reset the zero on the optic, as well. If that's the case, I'll bump this rating from a 4 star to a 5, since I was on the fence as to whether I should just give it a 5 star to begin with. The only reason I did was because I have yet to be able to put this through some torture testing, long range shooting, and such things as resetting the turrets.

If you're looking for a light duty long range optic, something for the rifle you rarely shoot, or something to use while you're saving up for your Nightforce, Leupold, Schmidt & Bender, Zeiss, or US Optics scope of choice, this is a handy little option, with the added benefit that buying it won't set you back much monetarily on your journey to purchase one of the previously mentioned optical powerhouses.

This would have been my 5th CVLife scope, if I had kept it. However there were TWO major issues with the one I received. 1) It was VERY inconsistent in returning back to original zero point when dialing in from say 50 yards to 100 shooting, then dialing back to it's 50 yard zero point. NEVER worked. It was always off half inch or more! 2) on 24X @ 50 yards no matter what I did it absolutely refused to have a clean clear sight picture. Now, if you plan on zeroing it to one range then just using holdover/under, and shots were 100 yards away or more, then I'm sure this scope you'd be ok with.
I sent this back and replaced it with my 2nd CVLife JackalHowl scope, this one in 6-24X (the other J.H. is a fixes 4 power on a 44 Mag carbine )

The scope came in ok packaging but when pulled out i found one of the end caps with elastic string was cracked up...not a huge deal...also appeared to be some Chinese pencil marks on scope? Scope seems decent for price but have not the fired the gun with it yet. I left seller feedback and they answered very promptly and within awhile and a few pics they were going to send partial refund! Customer service 5 star.

For the price it is excellent. At full zoom it takes a few seconds to get it set right to focus, that is the only reason for 4 stars. Other than that, value for money is great!
