Exactly what I was looking for

Exactly what I was looking for
I ordered this to finally replace my cheap old Tasco scope on my 30-30 marlin I've had since I started hunting 17 years ago. I was very accurate with my old scope if I was resting on something but offhand I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. After missing an embarrassing amount of deer on the last day of rifle last year, I finally decided to scope shop. I noticed Nikon pushes the new BDC reticles so hard its hard to even find a Nikoplex sight. I wanted something better for offhand and for hitting a running deer and this was exactly what I wanted. The center of the crosshairs are very fine *aim small miss small* and the light absorption/projection is amazing in low light not to mention its Nikon so the lens is very very clean and clear. It only took a few shots to get it zeroed in after bore sighting. This scope paired great with the Grim Reaper one piece scope mount. Highly recommend for all hunting rifles shooting near the 100 yard range.

This was my first purchase of a Nikon scope and I am very pleased with the decision. The field of view is very clear, the cross hair reticle is sharp and most importantly the eye relief is generous. There is no fear of a eye brow gash by sighting in up close to the scope. There is no need for that. Therefore when firing high power rounds such as 30-06, that is one concern taken out of the equation. The ease of adjustment is typical for these types of scopes. It takes a few rounds at the range to get really sighted in, but once you are there, the fun begins, in a good way. These Nikon scopes are priced in a mid- grade pricing area, but performance-wise they are very good. I am very pleased with my purchase of the Nikon ProStaff scope.

When it comes to rifle scopes, there are a lot of options and factors to consider, and every professional I talked to or read all said the same thing... nothing is more important on a rifle then the glass. The common consencise is that the glass should cost more then the rifle. And I guess thats true, up until you get to Nikon. High priced quality for a budget sized wallet. I picked this scope for my Ruger 10/22 Target rifle. It is one of the cleanest and clearest designs on the market. The Turrets are click adjust without a screw driver, and Nikon support is amazing. First of all you can go to thier website and dial in your gun and ammunition, and they tell you presciley how to set your scope up at say 25 yards in order for it to be zero at 100 yards or even 1000 yards. Next if you have a favorite gun/ammo combination you can order custom turrets for your setup. Again all of this at mid range pricing. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. It holds up well on my 10/22, and is the perfect scope for my needs.

I debated between 4 stars and 5. The scope itself deserves 5 stars: clear glass, positive turrets, reasonably short and lightweight, fixed parallax at 100 yards, simple reticle, great value. Everything I specced, except I might have overestimated what 9x could do in my situation. I have several 16x AOs and SFs, and I knew that they were too much. I dialed them down and waffled between 9x and 12x. The 12x equivalent ProStaff is heavier and two inches longer, so I went with this model. The jury is still out on whether I made the right choice, but you sure can't fault the scope.

I've got this scope mounted on a Ruger American Rifle and I absolutely -love- the combination, particularly when looking at it from a value conscious perspective. This scope is bright, it's clear, it has superb adjustments and it appears to be rock solid. I am not a huge fan of all these new newfangled bells and whistle range-finding-bullet-drop-this-that-and-the-other scopes, so the "old school" Nikoplex "crosshairs" on this scope are right down this old fellers alley. Seriously, if you put this scope on one of the new bolt action "value" rifles (Savage, Ruger, etc) you will have one heckuva tack driving package for WAY less than what you used to have to spend for good glass and an accurate rifle.

Just did the "dusk test" with this and two other scopes. The Nikon I got as a package scope on my Savage quarter bore came in third place according to my eyes. My Bushnell Trophy XLT came in a surprising second place. Surprising because it was as clear as the package Nikon but a little brighter. This Nikon Prostaff was a little clearer and a little brighter than the Bushnell. When I say little I mean LITTLE. My shoulder was getting tired trying to figure out one through three. I got my son and his younger eyes to look through all three and he quickly put them in the same order I did. He felt the difference was noticeable but may not mean much in most situations. My other Nikon is a BDC but I prefer the Nikoplex. The less going on in my scope the better. I live in the mountains of the east where there are few long shots. I do better guesstimating a hold over than using the dots, circles, or hashes only to find out my range guestimation was off anyway. This is a better scope than my Bushnell but if I had to pay more($170.00) than the $125.00 I paid for this I would buy the Bushnell for $100.00. It comes with Butler Creek's!

Brah, I was about to go Leupold, because they have some of the best scopes, but I settled for this Nikon because it was cheaper and I didn't want to spend much at the time of purchase. I was not disappointed. The scope is great and clear. I'm not sure how it holds up to a Leupold, but I am totally happy with this purchase. I have it mounted on my M1A and after a few hundred rounds it's held up and I'm sure I won't have much problems with this as I am only a casual shooter. I don't know how it holds up out on the field, but I am eager to try it out one of these days.
