Firefield Nightfall 4x50 Night Vision Monocular
Your Nightfall starlight night vision scope is a professional specification night vision device designed to provide enhanced viewing in all low light conditions including total darkness. This night vision scope operates by amplifying existing light using an electro-optical system.
The Nightfall is a passive starlight device; it does not require any artificial light source, although an artificial infrared light will greatly enhance the scope’s effectiveness in all facets of operation. The Nightfall is constructed using an electro-optical intensifying tube contained in a water-resistant composite housing and is rugged enough for extreme field conditions. Firefield - Victory Justifies Everything!
Objective Lens Diopter
Direct your Nightfall at an object at a distance of approximately 100yds. Adjust the eyepiece and objective lens diopter setting to focus the unit by rotating the eyepiece (3) and objective lens (4.)
IR Illuminator
Equipped with a power-saving PULSE IR illuminator, this night vision scope operates by amplifying existing light using an electro-optical system.
Quick Power-Up
If the subject to be viewed is in a completely dark area, including low-light shadow areas, activate the infrared illuminator by pressing the “IR” button located next to the “ON” button.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2020Wow. For the price, this 1st gen unit fits the bill well for a monocle style. Truths:
With just a couple driveway street lamp posts in the area, and without activating the IR button:
. Can see back corner of neighbor's house across the street and could easily distinguish bushes, house lines. Without the back of the house isn't even visible.
. Can see the mailbox of neighbor's house across the street caddy corner to ours with the driveway on the far side. Again, without the unit it's too dark to see the mailbox. Can't read the mailbox street numbers but can tell there are symbols on the side. Also can see their house and bushes and could probably make out the outline of someone standing by the house and bushes.
. Can see the street (about 30' away) clearly as if a car's headlights were approaching and illuminating the road. Not daylight bright, but certain good enough to see someone walking or a car parked on the street.
Surprisingly, the unit has some night vision without even powering it up (hence the daytime protective cap to prevent optics damage). Powered on, you notice a very slight brightness increase but not significant. The IR button improves brightness and object visibility probably for about 30'. You can't aim the camera towards any light bulb as there is very bright (almost sun-like) glare otherwise works great.
There's no visible light emitted nor really bright power led on this unit so fairly stealth. The power led is very small and faint, on the top of the unit so not easily seen by others. In a dark environment, you would definitely have an advantage to not being noticed because of the unit's quiet and 'dark' operation.
The only improvement that's warranted is an OEM cord to the lens cap as I expect it can be easily lost or misplaced.; And the cap is required to protect and also has a pinhole in it for daytime operations testing (not long-term daytime use).
As we live in a fairly rural subdivision and few house lights it will be good to find pets up to 100' away and check for those knocks in the night. Walking the dog at night, you'd be able to check your surroundings fairly easily in virtually low light conditions. Would not rely on it for close proximity while moving such as objects closer than 5' away as it's geared more for distance/magnification than natural viewing.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2021I ordered, it came, and realized there is too much light pollution, car lights, street lamps, etc. where I currently live to make good and safe use of it. After only a few minutes sitting in the dark my young eyes can see pretty well at night here. It was an amazing deal for legitimate night vision. Picture quality was somewhat grainy for just night vision but the infrared illuminator improved the picture quality to be pretty good crisp, especially for the money. Great purchase for beginners who hunt or are concerned with security. I don't see this being much of an asset in a close quarters combat situation. You can mount on a tripod. It did NOT help me see more stars through the light pollution. Takes 2 AA batteries. Read the instructions! It is important to protect the night vision from any light source that can throw light; even a key chain flashlight could damage and will definitely at least temporarily lower picture quality. Last thing, the image through the lense is zoomed in, so there is significant tunnel vision which can be disorienting in unfamiliar settings and unhelpful in a typical dwelling.
UPS delivered my return. It was pretty easy but I didn't get my refund right away. One week after UPS said they delievered the return, I sent the seller a message asking about a refund. They quickly responded and refunded me. Not sure why I had to ask but mistakes happen.
I am satisfied. I would purchase from Firefield again. I would recommend their products to my friends.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2021This is an actual night vision monocle and it does work. The three pictures I have taken of are the normal camera then the scope with the IR iluminater on and the last with just the normal scope. The picture quality is alright and has 4X zoom which is not adjustable. The depth of field is not the greatest but has a very wide range so you can adjust it to see better up close or something farther away. To do this you need to turn both the front adjuster and back adjuster. The front one is broader so it can take you from far range to close range quick but you need to use the back one to get it perfect. This scope comes with a case, cap, wipe, and manual. This scope is not meant for pitch black, it does need some ambient light but the ilumanator makes it much brighter. The cap has a pinhole so you can look through it even with the cap on. It take 2 AAA batteries which are included so it can be turned on right away. It only has 2 buttons one is for OFF/ON and the other is for the Ilumanator. It also turns off gradually so don’t worry if it doesn’t instantly go black when you turn it off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Vision
Absolutely brilliant. I was playing hide and seek with my dog and he could never see me haha. It is great for when you want to see animals in the wild for my night walks. It is great for saving battery life also. I only use 1 second of the on switch and switch it off and works fine for up to 20 minutes while turned off. The only time you need it on is if you need to use the IR illuminator

Does what is says, Image quality a bit better than I though for a Gen 1. Better for use outside but passable indoors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
For the price it works well. Wish the field of view was wider, but it does the job.
